A morning of song and dance!
We always have a lovely time when the wonderful group, Simply Uke, come to visit us.
Lots of singing, lots of dancing, lots of smiles and an awful lot of fun!
Museum to You
What a incredibly interesting session we had with Museum to You today. We studied floor tiles that were hundred’s of years old and had been excavated from the remains of the great hall at The Bishop’s Palace. It was so exciting to be able to handle the artifacts and learn all about the buildings that used to stand in the Palace grounds.
We then made cards using stencils based on the original tiles, which was enormous fun and got into the spirit of things with a good dressing up session!
What a busy week!
We’ve had a really busy week, with a visit from Owl Enlightment, crafting and celebrating Burn’s night with songs and poems! phew……..
‘Smashed in the Cellar’
We’ve been privileged to take part in two workshops with the Wells and Mendip Museum as part of their ‘Smashed in the Cellar’ project.
Following the excavations of the Musuem’s gardens in the 1990’s, they discovered lots of smashed ceramics, dating across 500 years and much of which would have been very expensive.
Our workshops involved painting china cups, plates and tiles with individual designs which were then (safely) broken up. Our members could then choose to either rebuild them or make them into something completely new and unique.
We hope to see some our efforts at the ‘Smashed’ exhibition which will be in the Museum from 16th February until 11th April. Do go along, it should be fascinating!
Lantern Parade Preparations
Emma LeFevre from Project Factory visited us ahead of the evening Lantern Parade that will take place on Saturday, 20th January.
We all had fun making up the frames for our lanterns with willow, before wrapping fairy lights around them. Plenty of masking tape was used!!!
Owls, owls, owls!
What a wonderful day! We recently won a competition to get a visit from a very special organisation called Owl Enlightenment. Their ethos is to invoke memories, raise wellbeing and initiate social activities with the help of their beautiful owls.
Our members had such a lovely time engaging with, talking with and holding the owls.
Quite an experience!

The Big Draw
We were joined by Kath and Saffy from Glastonbury Abbey to take part in their Big Draw project.
It involved making art using all the senses, not just sight and we all had such an interesting and stimulating morning!
Silver Gilt Award!
Our brilliant gardener, Rebecca, scooped a Silver Gilt Award for a Community Garden at this year’s Wells in Bloom Awards.
Thank you so much Rebecca, your beautiful garden makes such a difference to our members.

Our members had such an interesting time and lots of memories were shared, discussions were had and everyone learnt new things!
What a brilliant day.
Getting out and about!
More of our lovely members have been out on the Wells Community Network Tri-shaw. It’s been great for their wellbeing as many of them are no longer able to just go for a walk around town, something that so many of us take for granted.
A bit of culture!
We had a lovely musical morning with a musician playing the flute and our members having a really good sing along!
When the moon hits your eye….!
We recently had great fun making our own pizzas here at The Lawrence Centre.
The multi talented Gilly came along to guide us and we all made our our delicious pizzas which we happily tucked into for lunch.
The smells from the kitchen were mouth watering and we all enjoyed a very tasty time!
Feeling the wind in our hair!!
We’ve been lucky enough to be able to take advantage of the fantastic Wells Tri-Shaw, and our members have absolutely loved it!
Many of them are unable to walk around town anymore and have really enjoyed the gentle ride around the Cathedral Green, Bishop’s Palace and moat and the market place.
They may not have been able to take a stroll down the high street for a while, so they’ve enjoyed seeing all the different shops and how things have changed.
The Wells Tri-Shaw is a run by the Wells Community Network and is part of the Cycling Without Age scheme. It’s designed to enable people who have mobility, health issues and isolation, to get out into the fresh air and enjoy a lovely site seeing tour around our beautiful city.
Piloted by a charming person who is riding an electric assisted bike, the Tri-Shaw is very comfortable and comes equipped with seat belts, a hood and blankets if needed.
It’s completely free and you can book via the Wells Community Network by calling 01749 467079.
We’re looking forward to getting as many of our members out and about in the coming weeks……the staff love it too!
It all begins with an idea. Maybe you want to launch a business. Maybe you want to turn a hobby into something more. Or maybe you have a creative project to share with the world. Whatever it is, the way you tell your story online can make all the difference.
Don’t worry about sounding professional. Sound like you. There are over 1.5 billion websites out there, but your story is what’s going to separate this one from the rest. If you read the words back and don’t hear your own voice in your head, that’s a good sign you still have more work to do.
Be clear, be confident and don’t overthink it. The beauty of your story is that it’s going to continue to evolve and your site can evolve with it. Your goal should be to make it feel right for right now. Later will take care of itself. It always does.
