Call My Wine Bluff 2025
Over £12,000 was raised at the Call My Wine Bluff fundraiser for The Lawrence Centre and Project Factory
A huge thank you to everyone who worked so hard to make it such a successful evening and, of course, to those who came along to the event.

Sing along with Cathy and Johnny
We always have such a good time when Cathy and Johnny visit. Lots of singing along to old favourites and even accompanying them with a variety of percussion!
Farleigh Hungerford Castle
A great morning, we even got in some target practice with a cross bow!
We enjoyed another wonderful morning with Museum To You who shared stories about Farleigh Hungerford Castles’ history.
We enjoyed hearing about the family scandals including the Lady Agnes Cottell who murdered, dismembered and burnt her husband to marry the Lord of the manor.
‘The family history is so interesting, all wealthy families do strange things to keep themselves rich!!’ Michelina, 87
Museum to You is a marvellous initiative that brings artefacts from museums making them accessible to everyone in the community and we always enjoy their visits.
Royally entertained!
A huge thank you to the Shepton Mallet Ukulele Group who came and entertained us last week.
History talks
A great morning learning all about the former Mendip Hospital (now South Horrington) and the Cemetery from local historian Clare Blackmore. Clare regularly visits us and regales us with tales of historical Wells including the shenanigans of Southover (more scandal than EastEnders!)
You can read about the historical news from Wells in Clare's column in the Wells Voice magazine every month.
Thanks Clare, see you next time
Snowdrop Festival 2025
Our members have been super busy with making contributions for the Shepton Mallet Snowdrop Festival 2025.
They’re such a talented bunch!
Singing guitars!
We were thoroughly entertained by the Singing Guitars group this week. Everyone sang along and had a wonderful time with this lively bunch!
Singing along!
It’s always a good day when Dave visits us! He always gets us singing along to the golden oldies and making us laugh with his many anecdotes.
We were also joined by the rather lovely Bella the labradoodle who was staying with a couple of our members for a few days. She was a very good girl and everyone was utterly charmed!
Celebrating Burn’s Night
Thanks to Sue who came along and regaled us with stories and songs to celebrate Burn’s Night!
Visit from an old friend!
We were so happy to welcome back Jo, one of our previous session leaders, who spent the morning with us making contributions to the Snow Drop Festival which will take place in Shepton Mallet in February.
All hands on deck!
A special treat!
We had a lovely visit from Karen and Caleb from the Tesco Wells Community Team. They came and cooked a delicious spaghetti bolognese with garlic bread followed by treacle sponge and custard, YUM!!!
Our members then received a goody bag with items from the Tesco Aldi price match range. Thanks so much Karen and Caleb, you can come and cook for us whenever you like!
Christmas Parties!
It’s been a fun couple of weeks here at The Lawrence Centre.
Lots of turkey, lots of mince pies and lots of fun!
We have hosted a Christmas Party for every week day group so for many of us that’s meant multiple Christmas lunches, not that we’re complaining!
Music memories
We never fail to have a great time when Dave comes to entertain us.
Dave never fails to make us laugh with his stories and we all love singing along!
Crafty Christmas
We always have loads of fun creating festive decorations here at The Lawrence Centre.
Meet super woman…and her human!
We were all delighted that Poppy, the absolutely enchanting guide dog, bought in her human Helen who told us all about Guide Dogs for the blind and the amazing work they do.
Despite being registered blind, Helen fundraises for the guide dog charity by doing triathlons, marathons and other running events that she does with the help of a human guide.
She is also the president of the local Inner Wheel and helps fundraise for them too!
Helen’s ‘can do’ spirit was inspiring and we can’t wait to see what she does next.
Thank you Poppy for looking after your amazing human and keep up the good work!
What did the Romans ever do for us?
Another wonderful morning with Museum To You!
Our members were fascinated by the Roman artifacts the team from Museum To You brought with them today and they also presented one of our members with a Mulberry leather brooch after she won a recent design competition.
Wells in Mosaic
We were privileged to have a visit from Ruth Ames-White, the creator of the wonderful community artwork: Wells in Mosaic.
This huge piece has taken over 10 years to complete and is almost finished. It will be installed in Wells next year and will last for generations. If you would like to find out more, please visit the website here: Wells in Mosaic – A community art project in Wells
