Wells in Mosaic
We were privileged to have a visit from Ruth Ames-White, the creator of the wonderful community artwork: Wells in Mosaic.
More Trishaw rides!
On a perfect, mild Autumn morning, we enjoyed rides on the WCN Trishaw!
Wednesday Sound Bath!
The lovely Jo came in today with lots of interesting instruments.
We all really enjoyed making the most beautiful sounds, conducted by Jo, and discovering new things.
AUTUMN CRAFTS
Autumn has well and truly arrived so we spent the morning creating Autumnal art to decorate the Centre and write a seasonal poem.
Memories with John Barkles
John Barkles has spent his life owning and working in local grocery shops in and around Wells.
He came to share all his wonderful memories with us and we all enjoyed sharing our own memories of his shops and what life was all those years ago.
A really joyful, interesting morning!
Designing our own Mulberry bags!
We had a wonderful session with Museum to You. We learnt about the history of Mulberry and even designed our own bags.
Dinosaur Discovery Day
We had an interesting morning learning about fossils and the dinosaurs that used to inhabit Somerset millions of years ago.
Out and about!
We had a chocolate tasting and memory session recently which went down very well! Watching old adverts for various chocolate bars made us all giggle and the bars themselves were enjoyed by members and staff alike!
We also took advantage of the lovely weather and took the Trishaw for spin around Wells.
Olympics, TLC style!
Phew, what a busy day. On the hottest day of the year we all chose a nation, and took part in some games to celebrate the 2024 Olympics.
We also took turns to go out on the WCN Trishaw (piloted by Graham).
After such a busy day, we spent the afternoon relaxing with ice-creams in the garden.
Listen with Jo and Doreen
A lovely morning with Jo and Doreen. Armed with lots of props they recited poems and enacted out the stories, played music and talked about childhood memories which prompted lots of discussion and laughter with our members.
Guess the object
Nic McElhatton kindly bought in a wide array of antiques and curious objects for us and we all had a wonderful time examining them and trying to guess what they were and their uses. We all laughed and learnt a lot this morning.
It’s been a great week for interesting talks and, as many of our members tell me, you’re never too old to learn something new!
Fabulous Fabric Beehive!
What a creative bunch we have here at TLC.
We spent the morning cutting up fabric and creating a super festival beehive. Everyone joined in and there was a real buzz about the session (sorry).
Wells Tuesday Strings!
We had a lovely morning being treated to our own recital thanks to the Wells Tuesday Strings.
The group was led by violinist Hywel Jenkins and our members loved the music.
In the afternoon we enjoyed a game of quoits followed by a quiz, what a busy day!
‘Smashed’ update
Vicky Dawson from the Wells and Mendip Musuem came back to the Centre to return some of the exhibits our members had made, along with local artist Duncan Cameron, that were used as part of the recent ‘Smashed in the Cellar’ exhibition.
She also presented a video of the exhibition itself and we were delighted to see the pieces our members had made featured.
We clearly have some very talented members. One of them commented that he’d never created anything like it before and he was so proud of it!
We won!
We are delighted to announce that after recently taken part in the Tesco Community Grants blue token scheme in Wells, we won the top grant.
The lovely Community Team surprised us during lunch and presented us with a cheque for £1500!
Thank you so much to everyone who dropped a blue token into our collection box!
